Hello All,
As you may or may not know, Rudy was an organ donor. Because of this, he was able to improve the lives of many.
His decending thorasic aorta, saphenous veins, heart valves, upper and lower thoracic spine as well as tendons and other bone were successfully harvested. I was recently informed that two of his saphenous veins and two of his pulmonary valves were sent to use in patients in Texas. Saphenous veins are used for circulation issues and help to prevent the need for amputation. They harvested his femeral vein but it ended up being too small and had plaque so they weren't able to use that. The pulmonary valves are typically used for patients with congenital heart defects and Rudy's gift will prevent them from having to take lifelong blood thinners and anti-rejection drugs. His bone will be used for back surgeries and marrow will be used for cancer patients.
I contacted the Celebration of Life Monument and registered to have Rudy's name engraved on the Donor Wall of Honor and the unveiling ceremony will be on Saturday, August 29th from 10am to 10:30am at the south east corner of Library Square 500 S. 300 E.
The Celebration Life Monument is a tribute and memorial to Utah individuals, both living and deceased, who have donated an organ. The monument blends in beautifully with the nationally recognized architecture of the library with its majestic leaning wall and curved walkways.
If you are unable to attend the unveiling you can visit the monument anytime. Go to celebrationoflifemonument.com and search for Rudy's name. After August 29th the site will list the location of his name on a map so it will be easy for you to find. If you have any questions please let me know. Also, if you would please forward this on to those I may have missed, I don't have everyone's email addresses.
Thanks!KaiCee
